A Matter of Time

Reykjahlíð, Iceland

Inspired by tectonic shifts and the subsequent creation of new matter, this proposal seeks to inaugurate a series of landmarks, each highlighting interesting points along the Grjótagjá fissure.

The horizontal towers will become contemporary icons, easily recognisable from afar but also from the sky, be it by drone, plane or satellite. The first intervention will house a visitor centre, with entry to the renowned cave featured in the Game of Thrones series.

Other landmarks promoting new programs (such as visitor accommodation) along the fissure will be phased in over time. Each new addition will be designed to satisfy future requirements, while sustaining the popularity of Grjótagjá.
